Rabbi Avrohom Lider, who founded and stood at the helm of the Ahavas Chessed organization and helped thousands with medical needs, passed away on the first night of Rosh Hashana.

Rabbi Avrohom Lider, who founded and stood at the helm of the Ahavas Chessed organization and helped many with medical needs, passed away on the first night of Rosh Hashana, 5781.
He was 61 and passed away after suffering a heart attack.
Rabbi Lider served as a teacher for many years before in Oholei Torah during which he began to assist those in need of medical care.
Before long, Rabbi Lider began ‘working’ in chessed full time, and founded Ahavas Chessed, a medical assistance organazation.
Through Ahavas Chessed, Rabbi Lider helped many thousands of Crown Heights residents with medical needs, including medical advice and consultation and all sorts of assistance from arranging rides to providing hot meals to patients in hospitals and at home.
He also assisted the many guests who visited Crown Heights every year, including shluchim and bochurim spending their year learning in 770 or local yeshivos. Rabbi Lider would frequently cover the costs of treatments himself, if the patient was unable to afford it or did not have adequate medical insurance.
In the recent months during the height of the coronavirus pandemic, Rabbi Lider spent hundreds of hours assisting coronavirus patients and their families. He also helped arranged numerous blood and plasma drives in the Crown Heights community to replenish blood banks which were at dangerous lows, and to have residents donate plasma to help coronavirus patients.
Rabbi Lider also served as the Jewish Chaplain in Kings County Hospital.
In recent days he launched his annual campaign and was in midst of planning for new programs and his Erev Yom Kippur appeal when he suddenly passed away.
He is survived by his wife Temah, and children Dovid Lider (Crown Heights), Naftali Lider, (Crown Heights), Shmuly Lider (Crown Heights), Bassy Lider (Crown Heights), and Tzippy Janowsky (Toronto, Canada).
He is also survived by his siblings, Shlomo Lider – Williamsburg, NY, Yaakov Lider – Melbourne, Nechama Brichter – Yerushalayim, Eretz Yisroel, Malka Kaplan – Yerushalayim, Eretz Yisroel, Yehuda Lider – Yerushalayim, Eretz Yisroel.

I personally overheard a conversation one Shabbos with Rabbi lieder and someone in need. The man described his critical situation and Rabbi lieder was sharing all his advice and offering all help possible.
When the man said he tried calling Rabbi lieder and couldn’t get through, rabbi lieder said “that’s one thing I don’t want to hear. “You can call me whenever you want and I will always be there for you!” Wow!
I was so impressed that immediately after Shabbos I made a donation to Ahavas Chesed. This man is irreplaceable we need Moshiach NOW!

I worked for him for quite a few years, and saw how he was able to convince the best doctors in prestigious hospitals to treat patients whose lack of decent insurance would have indicated treatment at a clinic. He stepped in to prevent autopsies, cremations, and to bury a mais mitzva. He helped when child abuse was suspected, gave restaurant coupons to struggling families, and bought suits for bar mitzvah boys.
The list goes on and on. I just want the community to know that he did a whole lot more chesed, than just dealing with medical emergencies!
Crown Heights has lost another giant.
I hope his major volunteers will get together and keep Ahavas Chesed running.
May his family be comforted among the mourners of Tzion and Yerushalayim.
He was my teacher in Pri-1-A in 1995. I still remember his care and devotion, making sure that a young five year will feel secure and happy. This is so hard to believe. We need Moshiach.
