While visiting Poland on the CTeen Heritage Quest, a group of teens stopped by a mass grave in the Jozefow Forest, where 80 years ago today 1500 Jews were massacred, recited kaddish and sang songs of faith.
The trip was part of CTeen Heritage Quest #2 (out of 11), where the teens visit many sites of past Jewish presence in Poland, including the concentration and death camps Treblinka, Majdanek, and Auschwitz. The trip provides the teens with a deep understanding of the Holocaust, its effects on world Jewry, and the right approach to tragedy, loss, and rebuilding.
Upon arrival at the mass grave where 1,500 Jewish men, women and children were murdered by “ordinary “Germans from Hamburg and the surrounding region, shliach Rabbi Sholom Raichik, the CTeen Heritage Trip Leader, recited kaddish.
The teens then lit candles and sang Nigunim as they gathered around the mass graves. Not a dry eye was left to be seen.
