In a historic first, a Tanya was printed last week at an IDF post on Mount Hermon near Syria. The base commander, brother of fallen Lubavitcher soldier Yisrael Yudkin, had the honor of launching the printing at the event, organized by IDF Major R’ Ezzy Morgenstern.
Last Wednesday, 29 Teves, a special event took place at Mutzav Astra, an IDF base on Mount Hermon. In a first for the base, a Tanya was printed, fulfilling the Rebbe’s directive that a Tanya should be printed in every place where Jews live—especially on army bases.
The event, organized by Rabbi Mendy Ofen, began with an elaborate BBQ for the soldiers, featuring gift bags and live music from a band in Tzfas. The base commander, the brother of Yisrael Yudkin, a Lubavitcher soldier who fell in battle last year, addressed the crowd and had the honor of pressing the button to initiate the Tanya printing—marking a significant milestone for the Jewish presence in the area.
Following the printing, Rabbi Mendy Ofen held a Tanya shiur with the soldiers, studying Perek 44 from the freshly printed pages. The event concluded with joyous dancing, as the soldiers celebrated with uplifted spirits.
This remarkable event echoes a historic precedent during the First Lebanon War, when the Rebbe instructed Chassidim to print the Sefer HaTanya in Beirut. That printing was accomplished with tremendous self-sacrifice, and a copy was sent to the Rebbe as an expression of dedication.
This Tanya printing is part of the ongoing effort to bring Torah and spirituality to IDF soldiers, ensuring that every Jewish soldier is strengthened with the light of Chassidus.
