Dramatic Growth Prompts Purchase of East Flatbush Building

Over the past two years, the anash community of East Flatbush has doubled in size. Now, they have found the perfect property to house their growing kehillah.

On Chai Elul 5782, the anash community of East Flatbush (East 30s and 40s) went under contract to buy a new building to house its thriving shul.

The announcement comes as the kehillah continues to experience rapid growth, with the number of anash families living in the neighborhood having doubled in the past 2 years. The new 6,500 square foot building will house daily minyanim as well as weekly shiurim and many ongoing events for women and children.

“With the anash presence in this neighborhood constantly expanding, there has been an ongoing need for a larger communal space,” Menachem Engel said. “ This community is so warm and close-knit – people are excited to participate in whatever is being offered, and as a result we’re bursting at the seams, Baruch Hashem! After a long search and looking into many viable options, we’re excited to have found this beautiful solution.”

The 6 family home, centrally located on Albany Avenue, offers many solutions to the current need for more space and provides new opportunities for community togetherness, something local anash feel is especially appropriate as they prepare to welcome a year of Hakhel.

“We began utilizing a tent to host our overflow crowds, but we’ve outgrown that, too,” Mendi Drookman said. “With Hakhel year around the corner, we’re excited at the prospect of being able to unite our whole kehillah under one roof!”
